Microblading & Microshading at BeCammo, Malta

What microblading is

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment. With a hand tool that holds a row of very fine needles, pigment is placed in the upper layers of the skin in thin strokes that copy the look of real brow hairs. The strokes follow the direction your own hair grows in, so they blend in instead of sitting on top like make-up.

It is sometimes called an eyebrow tattoo, but the two are not the same. The pigment sits closer to the surface than in a body tattoo and is expected to fade with time. That is why the result is called semi-permanent, and why touch-ups are part of the process.

At BeCammo there are three techniques at the same price, €300, at our Swieqi salon. Brazilian microblading draws hair-like strokes. Brazilian microshading, also called powder brows, uses an electric pen to place tiny dots of pigment for a soft, airbrushed finish. Brazilian nanoblading is the most natural of the three: it sits more superficially and fades sooner. Which one suits you is decided together at the consultation, after a look at your skin.

Who microblading is for

Semi-permanent brows are usually chosen by people who fill in their brows every day and would rather not. The most common reasons:

  • gaps or thin tails after years of over-plucking;
  • fair or sparse brow hair that hardly shows;
  • two brows that do not match;
  • swimming, sport or heat, where brow make-up does not last.

Skin type matters. Hair strokes tend to stay crisper on normal to dry skin. On oily skin or large pores, strokes can blur as they heal, so shading is often the better choice.

Some situations need extra care, or mean waiting. Tell us before your appointment and we will advise if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have irritated, sunburnt or broken skin, or an active infection, in the brow area;
  • use retinoids or acids on your face, or take medication that affects bleeding or healing;
  • have diabetes, an autoimmune condition or a tendency to form raised scars;
  • already have old microblading or an eyebrow tattoo.

Consultation first. A 15-minute consultation with a specialist (€15) comes before any semi-permanent treatment. Your skin and your brows are checked, you hear what is realistic and which technique is recommended. If microblading is not right for you, this is when you find out.

How it is done at BeCammo, step by step

  1. Consultation and skin checkWe look at your skin type, your natural brows and any pigment left from earlier work, and ask about your health and skincare. The technique is chosen here.
  2. Brow designThe shape is measured against your face and drawn on the skin with a pencil: where each brow starts, where the arch sits and where the tail ends.
  3. Your approvalYou get the mirror. No pigment is used until you have approved the design. If you want a change, it is redrawn. For microshading, this is also when you say how soft or how dark you want the result.
  4. Choosing the colourThe pigment shade is picked to suit your brow hair and your skin tone.
  5. The treatmentYour specialist works the pigment into the skin with the technique you agreed on: hair strokes for microblading, dots placed with an electric pen for microshading, or the more superficial nanoblading. Both brows are compared along the way, not only at the end.
  6. Aftercare adviceYou leave with clear instructions for the healing days.
  7. Touch-up after 30 daysOnce the skin has healed, a one-hour touch-up (€50) corrects the small imperfections that commonly appear during healing and adjusts the colour if needed.

The treatment is booked as a two-hour appointment. That covers the design, your approval and the pigment work itself.

Before your appointment and while it heals

Before

In the days before, avoid sunburn on your face and leave your brows alone: no waxing, tinting or plucking. Skip alcohol the day before. Do not stop or change any medication without asking your doctor. Come without brow make-up.

While it heals

For the first days the brows look darker and sharper than the final result. Around the end of the first week they usually flake lightly, and the colour can look too pale for a while. It settles over about four weeks. All of this is normal healing.

During the healing days:

  • Keep them dry and clean. No swimming, sauna, steam or heavy sweating, usually for the first seven to ten days.
  • Do not pick or scratch. Let the flakes fall on their own. Picking can lift pigment out with them.
  • No make-up on the brows until the skin has healed.
  • Stay out of the sun and off sunbeds. Later on, sunscreen over the brows helps the colour last.
  • Keep retinoids and acids away from the brow area.

Use only the aftercare you are given or told to use at the appointment. If you notice swelling, heat or redness that gets worse instead of better, contact us.

How long it lasts and how many sessions

Results usually last between one and two years. Oily skin, a lot of sun and strong skincare tend to fade pigment faster. Nanoblading sits more superficially, which is what makes it look so natural, and it usually fades sooner than microblading. The colour softens gradually. It does not disappear from one day to the next.

Plan for two appointments to complete the work: the first session, and the touch-up about 30 days later (€50, one hour). We ask every client to come back for it, because small imperfections commonly appear while the skin heals. Skin heals differently in everyone, so some clients need more correction than others. How many sessions your brows need can only be confirmed after we see how your skin has healed.

To keep the colour fresh, there is a one-year touch-up (€190, 1 h 30), booked between 6 and 12 months after your treatment.

Old microblading you no longer like? Pigment that has faded to an unwanted colour or shape can often be lightened or removed. Microblading laser removal is available at our Sliema salon: see laser tattoo removal. It starts with a consultation, and the number of sessions depends on the pigment and on your skin.

The BeCammo method

BeCammo was founded by Brenda Cammo, a Brazilian pharmacist trained at the Federal University of Sergipe, who specialised in microblading and lip micropigmentation at the Alan Spadone Academy in Brazil. In 2025 she received two awards at the International Beauty Awards in Barcelona: Top Brow Trainer and The Best Master of Beauty Industry.

Brenda created the method our team works with. Your treatment is carried out by our semi-permanent make-up specialist, who follows that method from the first pencil line to the touch-up.

Natural is the goal. The Brazilian approach to brows prefers soft strokes to heavy blocks. The aim is brows that look like your own, only better.

The same rules that apply to every brow appointment at BeCammo apply here:

  • the design is drawn and approved by you before the treatment starts;
  • if your skin or your brows limit what can be achieved, you are told before, not after;
  • fresh disposable paper on the bed and on the work surface for every client;
  • mask, hair tied back and clean hands.

Between pigment sessions, eyebrow threading keeps the hair around the design tidy. And if you like the idea of semi-permanent colour for your lips too, read about lip blush.

Microblading, microshading or nanoblading?

Microblading & Microshading: questions clients ask

How much does microblading cost in Malta?

At BeCammo, Brazilian microblading, microshading and nanoblading cost €300 each. The consultation is €15, the touch-up after 30 days is €50 and the one-year touch-up is €190.

Does microblading hurt?

Most clients describe a scratching feeling and some pressure rather than strong pain, but sensitivity varies from person to person. Tell your specialist during the treatment if you are uncomfortable.

How long does microblading last?

Usually between one and two years, depending on your skin, sun exposure and skincare. Nanoblading is more superficial and usually fades sooner. A touch-up between 6 and 12 months keeps the colour fresh.

How many sessions do I need?

Most clients need the first session and a touch-up about 30 days later. The exact number depends on how your skin heals, which we check at the touch-up.

What is the difference between microblading, microshading and nanoblading?

Microblading draws fine hair-like strokes. Microshading uses an electric pen to place tiny dots for a soft, airbrushed finish. Nanoblading is the most natural and the most superficial, so it fades sooner. The best one for your skin is recommended at the consultation.

Can I have microblading over an old eyebrow tattoo?

Sometimes. It depends on how much old pigment is left and on its colour, which is assessed at the consultation. If it is too dark or dense, microblading laser removal is available at our Sliema salon first.
