Lash Lift at BeCammo, Malta

What a lash lift is

A lash lift is a treatment that curls your natural lashes upwards from the root and sets them in that position. No false lashes are added. Most of the change comes from the direction: lashes that grow straight outwards or point downwards hide a good part of their length, and once they are lifted you see all of it. At BeCammo the lift also changes the colour, with a darker shade that gives a mascara effect.

The method is similar to a perm, on a very small scale. Your lashes are combed up over a soft silicone shield that sits on the eyelid. A first lotion softens the bonds inside each lash so it can take the curve of the shield, and a second lotion fixes it there. Your eyes stay closed for the whole treatment.

The result looks like your own lashes after a very good curl, and it holds through sleep and showers. As your lashes grow and shed naturally, the lift goes with them. There is nothing to remove afterwards.

Who a lash lift is for

A lash lift suits most people who like their own lashes and want them to show more. It usually works well if you:

  • have straight lashes, or lashes that point downwards;
  • use a lash curler every morning and would like to stop;
  • want a natural look with very little upkeep;
  • prefer not to wear extensions, or want a break from them;
  • have a holiday or a busy season coming and want to wear less eye make-up.

Honest about what a lift can do. A lift works with the lashes you have. It does not add length or extra lashes, so the effect depends on how long and full your natural lashes are. If yours are very short or sparse, the change will be subtle, and eyelash extensions may give you more of what you are looking for. We look at your lashes first and tell you what to expect.

A lash lift is usually not recommended if you have an eye infection, a stye, irritated or very watery eyes, or broken skin on the eyelids, or if you have had eye surgery recently. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have allergies or very sensitive eyes, tell us before your appointment and we will advise.

How a lash lift is done, step by step

The appointment is booked as a 1 hour 30 minute slot. You lie on the treatment bed with your eyes closed, and a lash lift usually follows these steps:

  1. Consultation and lash checkYour specialist looks at the length, direction and condition of your lashes and asks what you would like, from a soft curl to a more open, lifted look. The size of the shield is chosen to match.
  2. CleansingThe lashes are cleaned so no make-up or oil is left on them. If you wear contact lenses, you take them out first.
  3. Protecting the lower lashesA soft pad under each eye keeps the lower lashes out of the way and protects the skin.
  4. Placing the shieldA silicone shield is fixed gently on the eyelid. The upper lashes are combed up onto it and separated one by one, so they set straight and not crossed.
  5. Lifting lotionThe first lotion softens the lashes so they take the shape of the shield. The timing depends on how fine or thick your lashes are.
  6. Setting lotionA second lotion fixes the lashes in the lifted position.
  7. Nourishing and finishingA conditioning product is usually applied, then the shield comes off and the lashes are cleaned and combed. You see the result in the mirror and get your aftercare advice.

Most clients find the treatment restful, and some fall asleep. If anything stings or feels uncomfortable at any point, say so and your specialist will stop and check.

Before and after your lash lift

Before

Come without eye make-up if you can, and avoid waterproof mascara the day before, because it is hard to remove fully. Leave the lash curler alone on the day. Bring your glasses or a lens case if you wear contact lenses. If you have extensions on, they need to come off before a lift. We remove them with a cream remover, a 30-minute service that costs €10.

After

For the first 24 to 48 hours, keep water, steam and mascara away from your lashes. That means no sauna, no swimming and a careful face wash. Try not to rub your eyes or sleep with your face pressed into the pillow. This is the time the new shape needs to settle.

Patch test. The product we use is hypoallergenic. If you are usually very sensitive to products, we advise doing a patch test beforehand. Tell us when you book and we will arrange it.

After that, life goes back to normal. You can swim, exercise and wear mascara, although many clients find they no longer need it every day. A non-waterproof mascara is kinder, because it comes off without scrubbing. Combing the lashes with a clean brush in the morning keeps them neat.

If your eyes feel irritated after the treatment and it does not settle, message us.

How long a lash lift lasts

The effect of a lash lift lasts around three to four weeks, depending on your lashes and on your aftercare. Each lash grows, rests and falls out on its own schedule, and the new one that replaces it grows in its natural direction. That is why the lift fades gradually. You will not wake up one day with flat lashes.

How long yours lasts depends on how fast your lashes grow and on how you treat them, above all in the first two days. Rubbing your eyes often can shorten it.

Most clients come back once the new lashes have grown in. It is better to wait until then, because lifting the same lashes again too soon can leave them dry. Your specialist can tell you when yours are ready.

What a lift can and cannot do

What it can do

Open up the eye, make your lashes look longer by showing their full length, and hold a curl for weeks without a curler. You wake up with lashes that already look done.

What it cannot do

Add length, thickness or extra lashes. A lift shapes what is there. For more volume than your own lashes can give, extensions are the right treatment.

The tint is part of it. Our lash lift changes the shape and the colour of your natural lashes. A bolder colour is used to give a mascara effect, and the exact shade depends on the colour of your own lashes. It is included in the €50.

Done next to your brows. Lashes and brows frame the same part of the face, and many clients book a lash lift together with eyebrow threading in one visit. If your brow hairs are as unruly as your lashes are straight, brow lamination works on a similar principle.

Both salons follow the same standard, with fresh disposable paper on the treatment bed for every client, so you can book whichever is closer.

Lash lift or eyelash extensions?

Both make your lashes stand out, in different ways. One works with what you have, the other adds to it.

Lash Lift: questions clients ask

How much does a lash lift cost in Malta?

A lash lift at BeCammo costs €50, tint included, and takes about an hour and a half, in Sliema or in Swieqi. A €10 deposit secures your booking online.

Does a lash lift hurt?

It should not hurt. You lie with your eyes closed and most clients find it relaxing. If you feel any stinging, tell your specialist straight away.

How long does a lash lift last?

Around three to four weeks, depending on your lashes and on your aftercare. The lift fades gradually as new lashes grow in.

Does the lash lift include a tint?

Yes. Our lash lift changes the shape and the colour of your lashes. A bolder colour is used to give a mascara effect, and the shade depends on your natural lash colour.

Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?

Wait 24 to 48 hours before using mascara, water or steam on the lashes. After that you can wear mascara as usual, and a non-waterproof one is easier to remove.

Lash lift or lash extensions?

A lift curls and tints your own lashes and needs no maintenance. Extensions add length and volume but need refills. If your lashes are very short or sparse, extensions usually make the bigger difference.
