What diode laser hair removal is
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light to reduce hair growth over time. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light, which turns into heat and travels down to the follicle, the small pocket the hair grows from. A follicle that has been heated enough usually grows a finer, lighter hair afterwards, or stops producing hair for a long time.
At BeCammo we work with a diode laser, one of the most widely used technologies for hair removal. It treats many hairs at once, which is why an area such as the underarms or the lower legs fits in a 20-minute appointment. It tends to be most effective on light skin with dark hair, but it can be used on all skin types with the right settings and the right number of sessions.
One thing to know from the start: laser only works on hairs that are in their growth phase, and not all your hairs are in that phase on the same day. That is why the treatment is done as a course of sessions and not as a single visit.

Who it is for
Most adults who are tired of shaving or waxing can have laser hair removal. It tends to work best when there is a clear contrast between the hair and the skin, so dark, coarse hair usually responds fastest. We check your skin and hair before the first session. If you would like to talk it through first, you can book a 15-minute consultation with a specialist for €15.
Laser is less effective on very fair, red, grey or white hair, because there is little pigment for the light to find. If that is your case, we will tell you honestly before you pay for a course. For fine facial fuzz, the dermaplaning in our facials menu is often a better match. Brows are always shaped by hand with eyebrow threading, never with laser. Our €60 combo does both in one visit: brows by thread, then upper lip, chin and cheeks by laser.
Tell us before your appointment if you are pregnant, have tanned or sunburnt skin, irritated or broken skin in the area, an active skin infection, or if you take medication that makes your skin sensitive to light, including some antibiotics and retinoids. Let us know too if you start a new medication or notice any change in your health between visits. We will advise you on whether to go ahead or wait.
How a session works, step by step
- Consultation and skin checkWe look at your skin tone, hair colour and thickness. We ask about your health, medication and recent sun exposure, and explain what you can realistically expect.
- Choosing areas and packageYou decide which areas to treat. We give you the price for single sessions and for the three-session packages, so you know the cost before anything starts.
- Preparing the skinYou shave the area the day before, at least 24 hours before your appointment, so the energy goes to the follicle and not to the hair above the skin. Come with clean, dry skin and no cosmetic products on the area. For facial areas, we can shave for you before the session if needed.
- Eye protection and settingsYou wear protective eyewear, as with any laser treatment, and the laser is set for your skin and hair. If you have a darker skin tone or a history of allergies, we recommend a patch test on a small area before the first session, to see how your own skin reacts. You can also ask for one if you simply prefer.
- The laserThe handpiece is moved over the skin, section by section. Most clients describe warmth and a quick snapping feeling, stronger where the hair is dense. Tell us at any moment if it feels too much and we adjust.
- Soothing and next stepsWe calm the skin, go through the care for the following days and tell you when to book your next session.
Most single areas are booked as 20-minute appointments, and the upper lip or the ears as 15 minutes. Full face and neck takes 45 minutes, and a full-body session about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Before and after your session
Before
Shave the area the day before, at least 24 hours ahead. Do not wax or pluck it in the six weeks before your session, because the laser needs the root of the hair in place. Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and tanning products for at least one week before. Come without cosmetic products on the area. If you are having your underarms done, skip deodorant that morning.
After
Some redness and a warm feeling, a little like mild sunburn, are normal and usually settle within a day or two. For the first 24 hours, avoid shaving, exfoliating, heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, very hot showers and tight clothing. Keep the area out of direct sun for two weeks and wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30 on it every day.
One week after the session you can use a soft scrub on the area. In the weeks that follow, the treated hairs work their way out and fall. That is shedding, not regrowth. Between sessions, shaving is the only hair removal to use: no waxing, plucking or epilators. Keep active skincare such as peels away from the area in the four weeks before your next appointment. If you notice blistering, or irritation that does not settle, message us.
How many sessions you need and how long it lasts
The honest answer is that it depends on you. Skin type, hair colour and thickness, the area of the body and hormones all change how quickly hair responds. Most people need a course of several sessions, because each visit only reaches the hairs that are growing at that moment. We give you a personal estimate at the consultation, after looking at your skin and hair.
One session a month. For a good result, the same area is treated once a month, and sessions are booked at least four to six weeks apart. That gives a new group of hairs time to reach the growth phase.
Most clients see the hair getting sparser, finer and slower to return as the course goes on. After a full course, many people only need an occasional maintenance session. Laser gives long-term hair reduction. It is not a promise that no hair will ever grow again, and areas influenced by hormones, such as the chin, can need more upkeep.
Packages of three sessions. Our packages are planned as one session a month for three months, and cost less than booking one by one. For women, three full-body sessions are €350, while a single one is €130. Three full-bikini sessions are €130, while a single one is €50. You can also choose up to three areas: €75 for one session or €210 for three.
Laser hair removal for men
Laser is not only for women. Both salons have a separate gentlemen's menu, from a tidy beard line to the full body.
- Beard shaping, €30. The laser reduces the hair above the cheek line and below the neckline, so there is less to shave every morning.
- Ears €20, shoulders €30, underarms €35, chest €45. Short appointments of 15 to 20 minutes.
- Full back €60, full legs €70.
- Up to three areas of your choice in one session, €85. Three sessions, one a month, cost €220.
- Full body, €140 per session. Three sessions cost €370.
Male hair is often thicker and denser, and on the back and chest it is influenced by hormones, so men can need more sessions than women for a similar result. For the beard, decide the line with your specialist before the session starts. Treated hair may not grow back the same, so it is better to keep the line conservative at first and adjust later.
If you also have a tattoo you regret, that is a different treatment: see laser tattoo removal in Sliema. Hair removal laser is not used over tattooed skin.
Laser, waxing or shaving?
Three ways to deal with unwanted hair, compared on what matters when you are choosing:
| Method | How it works | How long it lasts | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diode laser | Light heats the follicle and reduces growth over a course of sessions | Long-term reduction, with occasional maintenance | Costs more at the start and needs less upkeep later. From €20 per area |
| Waxing | Pulls the hair out from the root | Usually three to six weeks | The hair has to grow out between appointments. Ingrown hairs are common |
| Shaving | Cuts the hair at skin level | One to three days | Cheap and quick, but constant. Can cause razor bumps and irritation |

Laser Hair Removal: questions clients ask
How much does laser hair removal cost in Malta?
At BeCammo, single sessions start at €20 for the upper lip. Bikini line is €30, underarms €35, lower legs €45, Brazilian €50 and full legs €60. A full-body session costs €130 for women and €140 for men, and three full-body sessions cost €350 for women or €370 for men. A consultation before you start is €15.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most clients feel warmth and a quick snap, like a small elastic band on the skin. It is usually stronger on areas with dense, dark hair, such as the bikini line or underarms, and it tends to ease as the hair gets finer over the sessions.
How many sessions of laser hair removal do I need?
It depends on your skin type, your hair and the area. Most people need a course of several sessions, one a month, booked at least four to six weeks apart. We assess you at the consultation and give you a personal estimate before you commit to a package.
Does diode laser work on dark skin?
Diode laser tends to be most effective on light skin with dark hair, but it can be used on all skin types with the right settings and number of sessions. We check your skin and hair before the first session. Tanned or sunburnt skin has to wait until it has settled.
Can I go to the beach after laser hair removal?
Skip swimming and saunas for the first 24 hours. Keep the treated area out of direct sun for two weeks and wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30 on it every day.
Do I need to shave before my appointment?
Yes. Shave the area the day before, at least 24 hours before your appointment. Between sessions, shaving is the only hair removal we recommend. Do not wax or pluck in the six weeks before a session, because that removes the root the laser needs to find.
